چکیده

We describe the results of our multi-wavelength observing campaign on the young stellar objects in the LkHα101 cluster. Our simultaneous X-ray and multifrequency radio observations are unique in providing simultaneous constraints on short-timescale variability at both wavelengths as well as constraints on the thermal or nonthermal nature of radio emission from young stars. Focussing in on radio-emitting objects and the multi-wavelength data obtained for them, we find that multi-frequency radio data indicate nonthermal emission even in objects with infrared evidence for disks. We find radio variability on timescales of decades, days and hours. About half of the objects with X-ray and radio detections were variable at X-ray wavelengths, despite lacking large-scale flares or large variations. Variability appears to be a bigger factor affecting radio emission than X-ray emission. A star with infrared evidence for a disk, [BW88] 3, was observed in the decay phase of radio flare. In this object and another ([BW88] 1), we find an inverse correlation between radio flux and spectral index which contrasts with behavior seen in the Sun and active stars. We interpret this behavior as the repopulation of the hardest energy electrons due to particle acceleration. A radio and X-ray source lacking an infrared counterpart, [BW88] 1, may be near the substellar limit; its radio properties are similar to other cluster members,

A high-frequency radio continuum study of massive young stellar objects

We present high-resolution observations made with the Very Large Array (VLA) in its A configuration at frequencies between 5 and 43 GHz of a sample of five massive young stellar objects (YSOs): LkHα101, NGC2024-IRS2, S106-IR, W75N and S140-IRS1. The resolution varied from 0.04 arcsec (at 43 GHz) to 0.5 arcsec (at 5 GHz), corresponding to a linear resolution as high as 17 AU for our nearest sour...

Iras 20050+2720: Anatomy of a Young Stellar Cluster

IRAS 20050+2720 is young star forming region at a distance of 700 pc without apparent high mass stars. We present results of our multiwavelength study of IRAS 20050+2720 which includes observations by Chandra and Spitzer, and 2MASS and UBVRI photometry. In total, about 300 YSOs in different evolutionary stages are found. We characterize the distribution of young stellar objects (YSOs) in this r...

Embedded Star Formation in the Eagle Nebula with Spitzer/glimpse

We present new Spitzer photometry of the Eagle Nebula (M16, containing the optical cluster NGC 6611) combined with near-infrared photometry from 2MASS. We use dust radiative transfer models, mid-infrared and near-infrared color-color analysis, and mid-infrared spectral indices to analyze point source spectral energy distributions, select candidate young stellar objects (YSOs), and constrain the...

Multiwavelength Signatures of Cosmic Ray Acceleration by Young Supernova Remnants

An overview is given of multiwavelength observations of young supernova remnants, with a focus on the observational signatures of efficient cosmic ray acceleration. Some of the effects that may be attributed to efficient cosmic ray acceleration are the radial magnetic fields in young supernova remnants, magnetic field amplification as determined with X-ray imaging spectroscopy, evidence for lar...

Accurate determination of accretion and photospheric parameters in young stellar objects: The case of two candidate old disks in the Orion Nebula Cluster ⋆

Context. Current planet formation models are largely based on the observational constraint that protoplanetary disks have a lifetime of ∼3 Myr. Recent studies, however, report the existence of pre-main-sequence stars with signatures of accretion (strictly connected with the presence of circumstellar disks) and photometrically determined ages of 30 Myr or more. Aims. Here, we present a spectrosc...
